3 months

Mon Oct 26, 2009, 12:07 AM
it's nearly november now. i should have 6 pieces done by the end of this week to be on schedule, which already provides a one month grace period. i have two pieces done and three in progress. quality is the aim in these early pieces, so that i can have a lot of impressive pieces done before some big events this year like the scholastic art awards and portfolio day.

i guess i'm doing pretty ok. today was a good day. i drew from 12:30 to 7:30 taking two hours off from drawing. i finished "call your clique" after a week. it took more time to grid and sketch everything out than to shade i think. i can whip up some breadth pieces pretty quickly this year.

11 BREADTH #2-ENVIRONMENT
12 BREADTH #3-POSTCARD-SELF
13 BREADTH#4-KNOTTED FIBER
14 BREADTH #5-kNOTTED CLOTH
17 BREADTH #8-FLESH&MACHINE
18 BREADTH#9ISOLATION
19 BREADTH#10 REP/ 5 THINGS
20 BREADTH#11-PRINTMAKING

knotted fiber and knotted cloth are pretty boring breadth subjects. i guess i can whip those out in two days each or so. for flesh and machine i want to do an impressionist painting of mcdonalds. for isolation i'm thinking something to do with exercising, like bicep isolation, for rep / 5 things maybe just a still life of my desk, for print making something escher inspired.

i just have no time to do any of this! college applications, gotta study for 2 sat II tests, AP chem, CE project, good god. i think it's alright that i'm a bit behind in art.

i can't wait until my schedule clears up a bit.

my life this summer

Sat Aug 1, 2009, 1:57 AM
this summer so far has been minimally productive regarding art. i wanted to read many books, plan out my AP portfolio, get some work done early, study anatomy and practice it, yet so far...

a drawing, a painting, a half assed piece of burnt wood, and half a sketchbook of unfinished ideas is what i've finished so far.

i need to
-study anatomy
-complete danica portrait
-complete olivia's winnie the pooh commission
-complete a page of Run B
-complete a random comic page (for study)
-paint design on porch
-bamboo design
-second neoclassical painting
-self portrait

and of course i can't forget to work out regularly and do my summer home work.

some days i feel my friends distract me from my work. sometimes i can be so anti social D: i mean what do they ever do for me? i would be much happier with the recognition and rewards that my pieces will bring, not to mention experience and skill in creating them. what do i do with them? watch a movie. talk. jokes. laugh. phones and pictures. phones and texting. phones and videos. phones and music.

the only reason i hang out with them is because i know my antisocialness is temporary and something i'd rather not have attached to my reputation.

so... starting the moment i wake up tomorrow i will set out and finish this shit.

i have 11 pieces more to do, 11 more pieces i don't want to do!

art is supposed to be fun, but it's become a chore.

i want to do paint/draw other things! i don't want to be pressured, i don't want an assignment.

god please let it be june.

this year so far

AP art is coming along pretty well i suppose. i have a lot of breadth pieces finished but i could use more ideas for modern social problems though. i've been focusing more on the negative effects of technology but i'm sure there is more stuff out there i just can't place my finger on.

in other news, i tried oil painting for the first time and klasdfjilka;sdfjklasdf!!! it was awesome. it was so easy to use it was ridiculous. acrylic paint is lame now that i compare to oils... i still like watercolors though. they're just special.

drawing people

Fri Aug 22, 2008, 12:37 AM
i'm starting to get the hang of it. i gotta work on angles though. i have little to no problem drawing people standing face front, but that's pretty much all i can do well right now.

i look at all the artists i like and scrutinize their work and i find errors that i never would have found before. just goes to show not everything has to be perfect. if it looks good then that's that.

i can tell if a drawing is out of proportion most of the time, now the main challenge for me is to be able to correct those errors.
