Description

my art teacher gave me a book of wayne thiebaud's work and i really loved his stuff. i tired to emulate his style, but added a few twists and retained some of my own style. i finally think i'm developing a unique style of my own and i'm excited to paint more.

this is my first oil painting. after painting with acrylics for whatever short time i've been seriously painting, oil painting is a dream come true. it is so easy to use i wonder why i ever used acrylics. besides being my first oil painting, this is also my favorite work of art that i have created.

so this painting looks like a random assortment of eggs and a severed baby doll head, but there is much meaning behind it all.

here's my artist statement:

humans are just so evil. i'd be a vegetarian if i didn't love to eat meat so much

life may only exist in one place in the whole universe and so all life is sacred and a wonderful opportunity.

in the wild animals are free, but under humans they are raised just to be killed. we keep them confined for what little time these creatures have on earth.

how crappy a life would it be to born to live for a few months in a messy, smelly, crowded, dirty enclosure and then to unceremoniously die?

and so this painting is a juxtaposition of the life of an innocent human and the lives of innocent chicks. what arouses the more interest, disgust, reaction?

of course the human because for some damn reason we are so arrogant and so selfish.

the chicks are equally as innocent and equally deserving of a life and chance at happiness as the human. what gives us the right to destroy the lives of these innocent creatures before they're even born?

these creatures will never, ever get the chance to live again. how tragic is life, really?

great...love the shadows....yeah i just discovered oils myself...they are so much richer, and easier to ';push around'/blend than acrylics....unfortunately i need money before i can acquire a sufficient amount of oil paint ha....mmm...great work man keep it up
